Tales of a Roads Scholar
People and Places of the Heart

Allen's latest book – 43 tales from Allen's newspaper column from 1996 to 2000. These tales were specifically chosen to reflect the book's title. Allen's life has been rich in travel and relationships. He has met more than 1,000 people through his interest in genealogy alone, reaping rewarding, lasting friendships as a result. These people have become "people of the heart." Places where his ancestors lived, with which Allen has become well acquainted over many years, and even places visited for a couple of hours or a day have become "places of the heart."

Reader comments:

"How much I've enjoyed your newest book, Tales of a Roads Scholar. Your style of writing, your obvious love of what you are writing about, and how well you have researched your articles, really makes all the people in your books seem alive and real to me. It makes for a book I hate to put down. I feel disappointed when I get to the end of one of your books and realize there's no more." - Jim E., Sullivan, MO

"The book is so comfortable to read. It's so nice to be able to come apart from a harried and fast-paced life and slip into the warmth of a world where a person can smile, chuckle and savor the 'human' stories. I love the book!" - M.H., Haysville, KS

The Road is All!

Allen Gardiner's writings are rich with experience and travel, but it's the people he has known and the coincidences found in crossing paths that make them special, one newspaper editor said about this book, which contains 66 of Allen's favorite essays from his "Bay View" newspaper column from 1993 to 1996. "I meant to read only the first story, and suddenly I was on the last page! Every time I re-read one of these stories, I find something I hadn't seen before" was a typical comment among the first couple hundred of readers.
